Outdoor Living

Pavers, shade and outdoor kitchens built for the way Nevada is used

In this climate the backyard is a room. Shade, surface and seating are what decide whether anyone uses it.

Nine months of the year, the backyard is the best room in a Southern Nevada house. The other three, it is unusable. Almost every decision in outdoor living is really a decision about widening that first number.

Shade first, then surface, then the extras

The order matters, and most yards get built in the wrong one. People start with the kitchen or the fire feature, then discover the space is too hot to stand in when they wanted to use it. Cover comes first: a patio cover or pergola sized to the sun angle on your lot. Then the surface it sits on. Then the things that make people stay out there.

What a proper paver job involves

Excavation to depth, a compacted aggregate base, bedding sand, the pavers themselves, edge restraint and joint stabilisation. The base and the edge restraint are the two things that get skipped when a price looks unusually good, and they are the two things that decide whether your patio still has straight lines in five years.

Ground here moves with the temperature swings. A patio built to flex handles it. A patio built quickly does not.

Everything connects to everything

An outdoor kitchen changes where the gas and power runs go, which changes where the patio can be cut, which changes where the irrigation for the beds behind it has to move. A pergola changes the shade map, which changes what will grow under it.

Handled by separate contractors, those are four negotiations on site. Handled by one team that also designs the planting and builds the pool, they are one plan.

What this covers

Every part of the job, under one team

Paver patios and pathways

Pavers laid on a properly prepared and compacted base with edge restraint, so the pattern holds and the joints stay put through the temperature swings this valley puts them through.

Patio covers and shade structures

The single highest-value addition to most Las Vegas backyards. Shade is what converts an unused slab into somewhere people sit between May and September.

Pergolas

Freestanding and attached, sized and oriented to the sun angle on your specific lot rather than dropped in the middle of the yard.

Outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands

Built around how your household actually cooks and serves, with the utility runs planned before the hardscape goes in rather than chased through it afterwards.

Play and entertainment zones

Space for games, a court surface or somewhere the kids can be loud without taking over the yard. The work is the same as any other zone: grade, drainage, surface and where it sits relative to everything else. Full sport court construction is a specialism of its own and we will tell you when a job belongs with a court builder rather than with us.

Fire features

Fire pits and fireplaces that give the yard a reason to be used in the months when the pool is not the attraction.

Retaining walls and terracing

Structural walls that turn unusable grade into level, planted, walkable space, engineered rather than stacked.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us first

What is the first thing worth adding to a Las Vegas backyard?

Shade, nearly always. A beautiful patio that hits 40 degrees Celsius by mid afternoon is furniture nobody sits on. Cover the surface first and the rest of the yard becomes usable for months of the year it currently is not.

Pavers or poured concrete?

Concrete is cheaper up front and cracks in a way that cannot be fixed invisibly. Pavers cost more, flex with ground movement, and individual units can be lifted and replaced. If you are staying in the house, pavers usually win on the ten year view. If you are selling in two, that calculation changes and we will say so.

Do outdoor kitchens need permits?

Anything involving gas, electrical or a permanent structure generally does, and that varies by jurisdiction within the valley. We work out what your specific address requires before we design something that cannot be built there.

Can you match an existing patio?

Sometimes exactly, often closely. Paver lines change and older material weathers, so an honest answer needs us to see what is already down. Where an exact match is not available we will show you the options rather than surprise you at install.
