Solid covers
Full shade and rain protection, engineered for wind, flashed properly where it meets the house.
Outdoor Living / Patio Covers
An unshaded patio in this city is furniture nobody sits on for five months of the year.
Patio Covers in the Las Vegas valleyShade is not a feature here, it is what makes the space usable. A covered patio drops the surface temperature underneath it enough to change when the yard gets used, from an hour after sunset to most of the afternoon.
The choices are solid, louvered or open structure. Solid gives you full shade and rain protection and makes the room behind it darker, which matters if the patio sits against the main living space. Louvered gives you control and costs more. Open structure like a pergola gives you filtered shade that moves through the day, which many people prefer and some find useless in August.
A patio cover is a sail. Monsoon gusts here are the design load, and the footings, the post connections and the attachment to the house are what stop it leaving. That work is permitted, and it should be.
Attachment to the house is where the leaks start. A cover ledgered into the fascia rather than the structure, without proper flashing, will find its way into the wall. We would rather freestand a structure than attach it badly.
What this covers
In Las Vegas, the reason people buy a patio cover is not appearance. Without shade, an uncovered patio is hard to use for much of the year. A cover changes how the yard is used, and it changes how much heat is held under and re-radiated from the surface.
The difference between a well-designed cover and a poor one shows up in the first summer. Surface, material and height all matter, and we explain the trade-offs for your yard.
Alumawood and aluminum covers are light and low maintenance. Insulated panel covers block the most heat. Solid wood covers suit a traditional look. Lattice and open-slat covers give partial shade and airflow, but they are not rain covers. Louvered and adjustable covers let you control light and airflow. Fabric and shade sails suit some yards but need more maintenance in strong sun and wind. Each type does different things, and none does everything. For open structures, see pergolas.
Monsoon storms bring fast wind and heavy water. A cover has to be anchored for that wind and shed water to a place it can drain safely, away from the house foundation. Footing depth and wind rating are real specifications here. This is where a cheap cover fails first, and it is the part of the build a homeowner cannot easily judge after the fact.

Shade you can change through the day, at a cost that buys real control rather than a gadget.
Set away from the house where attachment would compromise the roof or darken the room behind it.
The engineering half. Sized for monsoon gusts, inspected, and not improvised on site.
Circuits planned into the structure instead of surface-mounted onto it afterwards.
Common questions
Generally yes for anything structural or attached. We handle it. A contractor who suggests skipping it is telling you something about the rest of the job.
A solid cover against a south or west wall will, noticeably. That is the case where a louvered or open structure earns its price difference.
