Landscape design in Las Vegas, resolved on paper first

Changes are free on paper and expensive in concrete. Design is where the yard is actually decided.

A designed desert garden seen from slightly above: a straight paver path running through layered planting beds with clean edges, agave and ornamental grasses set apart in decomposed granite, a change of level part way along and a turf lawn to one side.Landscape Design in the Las Vegas valley

Most of what goes wrong in a Las Vegas yard was decided before anyone turned a shovel. A patio placed where the afternoon sun lands. Planting chosen for a nursery photo rather than a west-facing wall. Grade that sends every monsoon into the one corner nobody looks at. None of that is a construction failure. It is a design failure that construction faithfully executed.

We start on the property, not in an office. Where the sun is in July, not in March. Which rooms you actually look out of. Where the water goes when it comes all at once. How you get from the kitchen to the grill carrying something. What the neighbors can see, and from which window.

Then it goes on paper: levels, surfaces, planting, irrigation zones, lighting circuits and the pool if there is one, drawn as a single scheme rather than a sequence of quotes. You see it, you argue with it, and you change it while changing it still costs nothing.

What a design costs you and what it saves

A design is the cheapest part of the job and the only part that can prevent the expensive mistakes. It is also the part most contractors skip, because a drawing is billable time and a shovel is billable progress.

The tell is simple: if somebody quotes your backyard from the driveway in twenty minutes, they are pricing a template, and you will pay for the difference between the template and your property later, in change orders.

What this covers

Every part of the job, under one team

Site analysis

Sun path, grade, drainage, soil, existing trees, utilities and setbacks recorded before anything is drawn. This is the part that decides whether the plan is buildable.

Concept and layout

Zones, circulation and sightlines. Where you cook, where you sit, where the kids are, and how you move between them without crossing the pool deck twice.

Planting plan

Species chosen by exposure and mature size, not by what looked good at the nursery. Spacing that assumes the plant grows.

Materials and levels

Surfaces, wall heights, step risers and transitions specified so the trades are not inventing them on site.

Irrigation and lighting design

Zones grouped by water need and circuits planned before conduit goes under anything permanent.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us first

Do I have to build the whole design at once?

No, and most people do not. A design done properly is staged: it tells you what has to go in first because something later sits on top of it, and what can wait a year without costing you a rebuild.

Do you charge for design?

Yes. Design that is given away for free is a sales tool, and it is worth what you paid for it.
