Pool resurfacing and replastering in Las Vegas

Interior finish is a consumable. In this water it is a faster consumable than the brochure suggests.

An empty pool shell freshly resurfaced and not yet filled, its pale gray-blue pebble interior dry and even, with a bench along one wall, steps at the near end and a new dark waterline tile band running round the top.Pool Resurfacing in the Las Vegas valley

Plaster has a life. In Las Vegas water, with its mineral load and its summer chemistry swings, white plaster typically gives eight to twelve years before it is rough, blotchy or both. Quartz gives more. Pebble gives the most.

The signs it is due: the surface feels rough underfoot, staining will not brush out, there are spots where the finish has worn through to the gray underneath, or you are chasing chemistry that will not hold because the surface itself is reactive.

Choosing a finish for this water

Plaster is cheapest and shortest lived. Quartz adds hardness and color stability for a moderate step up. Pebble is the most durable in hard water and the most forgiving of the mineral staining that is essentially unavoidable here, and it changes the water color more than either.

A mid-gray pebble is the finish we specify most often in this valley, because it reads deep, it hides the staining that will eventually come, and it outlasts the alternatives by years.

The startup matters as much as the finish

A new interior surface is chemically active for its first month. The startup procedure in that period determines whether it cures properly or whether you are living with a blotchy finish for a decade. It is not the moment to leave the pool to a schedule.

What this covers

When a Pool Needs Resurfacing

Rough or chalky plaster, staining that will not clean, a visible scale line, etching, spider cracks, exposed aggregate and pop-offs are the usual signs. Some of these are cosmetic. Others point to a structural or plumbing problem underneath, or to a leak through the shell. The right answer depends on which one you have, and we check before recommending a resurface.

Surface Options

White plaster, colored plaster, quartz, pebble and tile each suit different pools, uses and maintenance habits. Pebble is a common choice in this market because the aggregate handles hard water and strong sun well, though its finish and maintenance differ from plaster. The choice should follow how the pool is used.

What Else to Do While the Pool Is Empty

An empty pool is the best time to address tile, coping, lights, main drain covers, plumbing and equipment. Looking at these during a resurface avoids opening the pool again later. If you are planning a remodel, see pool remodeling. For ongoing care after the work, see pool service.

Every part of the job, under one team

Plaster resurfacing

The cheapest route back to a clean surface, with an honest expectation of how long it lasts in this water.

Quartz finishes

Harder and more color stable than plaster for a moderate step up in cost.

Pebble finishes

The most durable in hard water and the most forgiving of mineral staining, which is why we specify it most.

Surface preparation

Chipping, bond coat and the prep that decides whether the new surface stays attached.

Startup and cure

The first month, managed properly, which is what determines whether the finish cures evenly.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us first

How long does pool plaster last in Las Vegas?

White plaster typically eight to twelve years here. Quartz longer, pebble longer again. The mineral content in the water is what shortens it.

Can you resurface without draining?

No. Resurfacing requires an empty shell, which is a controlled procedure in this ground because of float risk.
